NPD Console Sales Figures Top 10 Games of October 2009

NPD Group has released its console software sales information for October 2009. The month pretty much went as expected with Sony’s Uncharted 2 and Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus leading the way. There was one very pleasant surprise in October. Check out the list and see for yourself.

Uncharted 2

  1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3): 537,000
  2. Wii Fit Plus (Wii): 441,000
  3. Borderlands (Xbox 360): 418,000
  4. Wii Sports Resort (Wii): 314,000
  5. NBA 2K10 (Xbox 360): 311,000
  6. Halo 3 ODST (Xbox 360): 271,000
  7. NBA 2K10 (PS3): 213,000
  8. Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360): 175,000
  9. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS): 169,000
  10. FIFA Soccer 10 (Xbox 360): 156,000

Borderlands did way better than most people were expecting. Sandwiched between ODST and Modern Warfare 2, most people — including renowned analyst Michael Pachter — thought that the game was going to take a pounding. Instead, it sold very well. This makes me happy on several levels. It’s completely immature, but I love it when Pachter is wrong. More importantly, I’m thrilled for Gearbox’s success. Well done guys!

  1. I happy to be one of the 537,000 that purchased Uncharted in October. Excellent game and I am very happy to see it at the top. I was one of the ones that got sandwiched without Borderlands though… and it's going to stay that way till atleast christmas, since short of AC2 next week, we have entered that period of time where I am not allowed to buy myself anything for fear that my wife has already procured said item.

  2. I resisted buying Borderlands for a while, but I couldn't stop playing it once I got it. I've already spent more time playing it than I have with Uncharted2 and Brutal Legend combined.

I don't think I'll be able to stop until I've leveled all four classes to fifty. The game doesn't really do anything special, and I have no idea what makes it so addictive. Every time I see a rare item drop, something in my brain goes "Wheeeeeeee!"

  3. ya Borderlands is definitely a game I've got to pick up. but I've only got precious time to play Dragon Age before Assassin's Creed 2 comes out

Brutal Legend still sold well enough to make a profit. I just hope its performance is enough to keep Double Fine going. I'd like to see more games come out of them. They just need to put a little more thought and polish on gameplay mechanics.

Maybe an early price drop would help it. The price for ODST is down and it's still selling pretty well. I should try to convince some friends to buy Brutal Legend on black Friday.

  5. Wii Fit Plus is #2. Just goes to show people are generally fat and don't want to do anything about it, but play a game.

Hmmm, I wonder if that game was bought first hand more, or was gifted more?
