Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, that tool in the Final Fantasy XIII release date announcement video, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s return to MSG, or helping me find a new coffee company (part II), Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

There are certain things you can expect each console generation — better graphics, enhanced sound, less money in your bank account, etc. Every now and then, a key feature is introduced that takes consoles to a new level. It seems quaint now, but the inclusion of DVD in the PlayStation 2 was huge — it turned consoles into devices for movies and games. Microsoft revolutionized online console gaming with Xbox Live. Today’s machines stream movies, browse the web, allow for social networking, and more. While this generation is still going strong and still has several years to go, it’s always fun to think about what’s next.

Tivo Gets Me

A few months ago, I wrote about my next-gen console dream: TiVo integration. Consoles are already capable computing machines with hard drives, so adding TiVo to the mix would be a snap. I’d love for one of the “big three” (I don’t care which one) to license TiVo software for their next console. If Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony announced a partnership with TiVo, I’d cry tears of joy.

I wanted to ask you what your dream features are for the PlayStation 4, Wii 2, and Xbox 720. Do you want more online functionality? Perhaps one-button pizza ordering? A wave motion cannon? Leave a comment and let me know (please)!

Just give me 1080p and anti-aliasing. Although the current gen is capable of them, they can't use them to their fullest which is necessary on a 1080p tv. I can play last gen games on my pc that look better than most current gen games simply because I can set them to 1080p with 18x + anti-aliasing.

Cmon, I can't believe that I am late to a party where no one has played this…

You can dance if you want to…

Everybody Wang Chung tonight.

Now that I've read the comments;

you stumbled in and bumped you're head, if not for me then you'd be dead

RRODisHere says:

I guess the DVR feature is the only thing that's left that could be added to the next gen consoles.

RRODisHere says:

I want to put Mmm Bop in your heads.

Shockwave562 says:

good wireless N gaming alternative here. $20 cheaper than the MS one and will upgrade your current PS3 internal G to N. definitely a smart buy for anyone rocking a wireless N network

thundercracker says:

@rrod

thats hard cause no one knows any lyrics to that song, mmbop, do wop scribby al do wop

or something

LarcenousLaugh says:

There used to be a show on Nickelodeon when I was a kid that featured a "Fast Forward" machine that a kid could write in and have made available to them for one school day. I need one of those right now for work. Can't remember the name of the show (I want to say it was Not Just News).

Smartguy says:

@larcenous

I'd just settle for a beer or 10

LarcenousLaugh says:

@Smartguy – I feel like my man card should be revoked for saying this, but I really don't like beer. I have probably one of the most horrid taste pallets in the history of mankind, but I have 0 taste for liquors. Most counter that you drink for the buzz, but if it tastes like ass the entire time, that buzz just isn't worth it to me. I'll gladly settle for a pepsi or 10 though lol.

Smartguy says:

@larcenous

N8R doesn't drink either. You two can share the Pepsi or whatever. It's cool though lol.

bsukenyan says:

@rpad the one button pizza ordering idea isnt too far off considering you can order pizza hut with an iphone app, but also i believe it is Comcast who has an option to order Dominoes from your tv with your remote. all from your couch. its not very widely used actually, but the technology is there.

Arguello says:

1. I would love to have like a Reebok-like web-site where you could fully customize the colors-hard drive-capabilities-operating systems-etc. and they send to your house exactly the way you want it. It would be a nice change.

2. A fly-ass easy bake oven would make any system better, IMO

@LarcenousLaugh How about wine?

@N8R That's awesome about Jani Lane. I use to serenade girls with "Heaven" on acoustic guitar. Totally worked back in the day.

@thundercracker My friend @jpkmets and I actually know some of lyrics to "Mmmm Bop". We used to play it on the jukebox when we wanted people to leave the bar. The Forrest Gump Suite by Alan Silvestri was more effective.

Sandrock323 says:

@LarcenousLaugh

I don't drink either. Why Pepsi though, ICB Cream Soda is the best!

Iceman says:

Yeah, well, the only think missing from the PS3 is the sandwich-grilling capabilities we were promised at a Sony press conference last year that took place in my head. Aside from that, the Xbox should have wireless integrated next time around and Nintendo should work on a better online interface or any other system besides the dreaded "friend code" garbage they have now. Always room for improvement, game console manufacturers. Listen to your damn followers to make a better product, please.

And while you guys are off topic; how about this one:

867-5309

I know you guys are going to hate me for that one.

Who's Clues, Blue's Clues….

This is the song that never ends it goes on and on….

Shockwave562 says:

Love me love me, say that you love me

N8R says:

I fell asleep for a while, but i see the horrible song thing is still going strong. My sincere apologies to everyone who read these.

Little miss, Little miss, Little miss, Little miss can't be wrong.

@ R Pad

Heaven is a good one for the list. I met him at NAMM one year and my friend had known him for years. He knows all those old hair metal guys, it's sick. I hear that Warrant has a new singer now that's apparently much better than Jani ever was.

Smartguy says:

Love is like oxygen. (youtube it if you have to)

Sandrock323 says:

When there's something strange in the nabor hood, who ya' gonna call?

N8R says:

@ Sandrock

I don't mean to make fun of a spelling error, but Nabor hood sounds like Gomer Pyle in the ghetto.

@N8R Yeah, Jani was never that good. Actually, the band was never that good. I loved all that hair metal stuff back in the day, but Living Color showed me how real musicians rock.

N8R says:

@ R Pad

I saw Living Color back in '89 with the Rolling Stones at the now gone 3 Rivers Stadium. Great show that was.

Ieyke says:

Just wanted to point out that Sony already made a TiVo+PS2. It was called the PSX but was only available in Japan and apparently didn't do very well.

I'm guessing that hurts the odds it will return soon.
