Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames,the season premiere of Lost, if Adrien Grenier should change his name to Vincent Chase, or why pinch-to-zoom is a must-have feature, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

I’ve “known” a lot of you long enough that I have a pretty good idea of what games you like and don’t like. However, I’m not so sure about your favorite game designers and developers. So let’s play a game! If you could have dinner with one famous game designer, who would it be and why? What questions would you ask him or her?

As for me, it would be Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. I’ve had one-on-one interviews with him in the past, but that was in the late ’90s. My recent encounters with the legend have been in group settings. I want more! I’d love to hang out with Miyamoto over a slow dinner, followed by dessert and coffee. I’d love to pick his brain, to see how he gets his amazing ideas. I’d even enjoy observing his use of ordinary objects like a fork or a coffee cup. His perspective is just so different. Remember, this is the guy that came up with Nintendogs and Pikmin after getting a pet and taking up gardening, respectively. Maybe he could come up with a marvelously entertaining game base on my morning ritual of grinding beans and making coffee in a French press.

So yeah! Who is your developer dream date? In addition to who it would be and what questions you’d ask, let everyone know what the setting would be. Also, I reserve the right to punch anyone that selects Cliffy B (I’m kidding. He’s awesome!).

@Nightshade386 The Skipper never lost weight on Gilligan's Island.

@tokz_21If you go in with the right expectations, I think you'll enjoy it.

Smartguy says:

Good theory on the skeletons in the cave. Could easily be Bernard and Rose. Though it isn't close to the beach that they liked.

@Ray: True, but did you ever see either Mary Anne or Ginger eat?

Smartguy says:

@Nightshade

I understand your frustrations and they would be true on a deserted island…however LOST occurs on an island that has inhabitants and plenty of food. Also, there wasn't very much work involved in building shelters since they use lean-tos mostly.

My biggest gripe is how come nobody ever has to shave???

@Smartguy: I don't actually care enough to be frustrated. I'm bored out of my mind at work and this was the ONLY conversation going on in here. And I had nothing to really add to the conversation.

Smartguy says:

@Nightshade

I'm wondering how nobody shaves or grows hair really? Haha.

Time to watch Blazing Saddles. Taggert is the best character.

N8R says:

@ Smartguy

The island heals you of unsightly blemishes and dandruff.

I think I remember Locke and Jack shaving… and Michael got pretty scruffy looking.

Smartguy says:

All the women wear tanktops…I can't imagine shaving under the arm with a knife.

If I weren’t married and could actually make a date of it? Jade Raymond…..for the obvious reasons.

But from a purely “gaming” perspective, I’d have to pick the good Dr’s at Bioware.

@Nightshade386 They ate a bunch of coconut cream pie. You'd think they had more access to fish. *shrug*

N8R says:

@ Smartguy

There were razors in the hatch and Sawyer probably stashed a few from the plane.

@ R Pad

The only guy that could fish without a rod was Jin.

Smartguy says:

ah yes the hatch. that slipped by me for a sec.

Smartguy says:

@tokz

interesting. Perhaps a candidate to replace Alpert. Also she is the one who drug Sayid on the plane and Jacob had Sayid saved. Interesting.

N8R says:

The truth is:

I have no idea why they are going with the 2 storylines. I’m sure it will all be revealed to us and there is a good chance of continuity errors aplenty.

One thing I know:

We can argue over theories for the whole season, but there’s a great chance we’re all wrong. That’s the way it’s been for 6 years now.

bsukenyan says:

@topic. Late as usual. But I would not be late for a dinner with John Romero and John Carmack. I've mentioned them a couple times in the past, but I would actually love to play games with them. See what games they are playing now, how they fare in Doom, what systems they like the most, etc. The food could be as basic as whatever they eat when they are on a gaming binge, for me that has been poptarts and green tea lately. Just to watch them function in the environments they prefer.

Miyamoto is a close second, as I have played many of his games and love them all. But I have to

go with the guys at id software, with them being the inventors of my favorite genre of games…what I would give to meet them and have this day actually happen……..
