Redbox Videogame Rental Contest Celebration Extravaganza!

In case you didn’t know, Redbox has gone national with its videogame rental service. Loads of excellent games are available at more than 21,000 Redbox kiosks around the nation (of Domination). Let’s celebrate this momentous occasion (okay maybe not momentous, but it’s definitely very cool) with a giveaway! Before I get to that, here’s a clip from the press release:

Redbox, America’s movie rental destination, will offer video game rentals at more than 21,000 redbox locations nationwide beginning June 17, 2011. Top video games will join new release movies for only $2 a day complementing $1 DVD and $1.50 Blu-ray daily rental prices. The announcement follows a test of video game rentals in select U.S. markets that began in August 2009.

Redbox has hooked me up with freebie coupons to share with you guys and gals. I’ve already contacted RPadholics Lunias, bsukenyan, BigBlak, and Redd75 so that they may claim their loot. If you’re interested in some free Redbox coupons, just leave a comment below.

  1. haha….I put in my zip code and it came up with a location off the coast of Africa somewhere in the Gulf of Guinea. Apparently, there are nor Redbox locations within 50 miles of my "location," which is good to know that they're not just sitting out there in the middle of the ocean waiting for African pirates to swing by to rent a copy of Date Night.

      1. Yeah, there's actually like 3 Redbox's within walking distance of my house. I'd just never really "looked" for them before.

      2. Sure, why not. First rule in life is to never turn away free stuff. ;-)

Speaking of which (free stuff), did you enter our Green Lantern giveaway? I know you're a fan. It's only tied to the movie in so far as "timing," so you shouldn't be further scarred by the horribleness or anything.

      3. My dad was a professional musician for 40 years. My whole life, he never had any other job and my family was provided for the whole time.

When I first started playing bass, I was in a band that day (bassists are almost as scarce as drummers). When I told this to my dad, he put on a very serious face and sat down with me. This was his exact quote:

"Son, you need to know the rules of being a musician."

"Rule 1: Never turn down the money."

"Rule 2: Never give back the money."

"That is all… now go practice."

  2. What's your take on the price? Two bucks a day seems high. It looks like a cheap way to testdrive a game you're thinking of buying, but a pricey way to play through a game you want to take your time with.

    1. Yeah, it's something that would be good for a weekend rental of an action game or something you're on the fence about. For something like an RPG, I'm not so sure. If you have Redbox in your area then it's nice for impulse rentals. There are kiosks at my grocery and drug store. It's nice to pick up something fun while I'm buying mundane goods.

      1. It looks like a great way to blow through a 6-8 hour CoD game if you're not a big Multiplayer gamer, that's for sure. No way I'd rent anything I intended to spend some time on with it though.

  3. FYi, I checked out the Nation of Domination like just for nostalgia and kicks. I find it sad that only guy in that vid that's still around full time is Mark F'n Henry. He only gets worse the more I see him.

  4. Now I might actually consider using this thing! As someone said, test driving a 65 dollar game for 2 bucks is nice. Been burned too much.

      1. You do not treat my people like this. We are dying, we are throwing up, you're talking about the coupon and that makes you feel better! Look at your fucking food maybe you poison everybody!

  5. i've been loving using the redbox game rentals. The best part if you rent it early in the day say 9a Tuesday you don't have to return it until 9p Wednesday that's 36 hours of gaming time! My only issue is that there are some games they won't carry like Dead Space 2 or the Mario Sports for the Wii.

  6. @ocx

With a lot of games' total campaign time dropping it makes sense. I would never rent fallout 3 from redbox, but I would easily have checked out some FPS's for a couple days or to beat over a weekend with some friends. Te convenience is great for short games like army of two, CoD, splinter cell conviction, etc. If all you are looking for is one playthrough.

  7. The Redboxes I've seen in my driving around the last couple of days have said "games coming soon" (here in Central IN). Thanks again Ray!

  8. Just got 'em in the mail yesterday Ray. Since my wife and I are home for the week (our daughter Anna Sophia was born Fri morning!!!), I might use one of the coupons for a movie one of the nights. They still don't have games stocked.

      1. @Redd75

Been able to get any sleep lately with the newborn around? Or any gaming? lol. One day whenever my fiance(soon to be wife) and I have kids I highly doubt I will be getting a lot of gaming time in after a baby. I was old enough to remember when my youngest brother and sister were born that it was a sleepless time for my parents.

  9. @Ray

Thanks for the redbox codes, I got mine in the mail too. Will probably try and find a redbox near me later today.

  10. By the way… I never thanked you Ray. For this, I apologize.

Thanks a bunch. They got here like the very next day.
